Designing a Customized Project Management Curriculum to Meet the Critical Development Needs of a Global Contract Manufacturing Organization
When predictability is questionable in a contract manufacturing organization, customers eventually will walk away. It can be challenging to build realistic project schedules and plans and drive commitment to execution across multiple functions in an environment where functional/operational goals often contradict with project needs.
First, we met with key representatives from the manufacturing organization to understand the project needs and challenges in context of the overall customer value process. We then created a comprehensive curriculum to build horizontal project management capability, increase the project leadership capability of key personnel, and provide fundamental project management knowledge within the cross-functional teams.
The capability building continues and the organization is committed to cross-functional goals that will increase project predictability and customer responsiveness through better, more realistic planning and execution of projects. Metrics are currently in place to measure improvement from year to year.
